Invicta Watch Review – Russian Diver Quinotaur 4578 Chronograph
In this Invicta watch review we’re going to take a close look at a watch that will definitely get you noticed – the Invicta Men’s 4578 Russian Diver Collection Quinotaur Chronograph Watch. No two ways about it, in our experience is the watch most likely to garner you unprompted positive comments from all and sundry.
Even the shyest guy needs to stand out sometimes. Whether as a conversation starter, to get noticed by women, or just to express and enjoy yourself. And of course a watch is a great way to do this. Every guy needs a watch in their collection that will make them stand out in the crowd. A watch will say more about you than your choice of cellphone ever will.
OK, but is the Russian Diver watch any good and is it worth your money? Lets have a closer look in this in-depth Invicta watch review.
Invicta the Company
Invicta were founded in 1837 in Switzerland, so as far as watch maker pedigree goes they stand toe-to-toe with anybody. The name Invicta means ‘Invincible’ in Latin. Today they are headquartered in the USA but still use Swiss parts in their watches and use Swiss R&D. A
According to their PR they have a driving ethos that supremely crafted watches can be sold for very modest prices. Generally we think this is pretty accurate, Invicta having some of the best value watches out there today.
Russian Diver Collection
The Quinotaur 4578 is part of Invicta’s Russian Diver collection. This series was started to honor the 1959 watch commissioned by the Russian Naval Fleet. The Russian Diver watches are all oversized and feature a signature crown cap and either surgical stainless steel or titanium construction.
The connection with Russia is basically just marketing. The watches aren’t made is Russia or anything like that, it’s just the style takes a few hints from some Russian technology.
What the Hell is a Quinotaur?
A Quinotaur is a mythical Greek sea creature that resembled a bull with five horns. Kinda like an underwater version of a Minotaur (a Minotaur is a more famous mythical Greek creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull). Not exactly subtle, and a perfect name for this watch.
OK but is the Watch Any Good?
Let start with the basics. It keeps time via Swiss quartz. What this means instead of having to wind it, it uses a battery to send vibrate a piece of quartz, and measures those vibrations to keep accurate time. This is a timekeeping method that works fantastically well. While the same method is being used by much more expensive watches, it’s also being used by cheaper watches. So this is basically a ‘par’ feature, no better or worse than other watches.
The window is made of hardened mineral crystal. This is the ‘middle’ kind, the best being Sapphire. The crystal of this watch is both anti-reflective and scratch resistant. Scratch resistance is very important feature in a watch as it is very annoying indeed to scratch the face of a watch you really like, especially a new one. At the same time though you want to go about your normal business without having to worry about scratches. So scratch resistance is very handy.
Don’t Get Fooled
The Invicta Russian Diver Quinotaur 4578 is rated to 100m below sea level. Now don’t get fooled by this, this doesn’t mean you can scuba dive with it to 100m. It’s not really suitable for scuba diving at all. It’s great for snorkeling and other water sports, but despite being called ‘Diver’ it isn’t a full-on divers watch.
It is shock resistant, so you can feel confident wearing it while you work or play sport. The case is made from surgical grade stainless steel.
Unique and Unusual Features
This watch has tons of stuff that if not unique, isn’t seen that often and seen together with the other unusual features seen hardly at all.
First and foremost is the crown. The crown of a watch is the chunky knob that sticks out at 3 o’clock. On the Quinotaur the crown is huge and is has a cap chained on so that you won’t lose it when it is unscrewed. Very unusual and cool, we really like it.
At 12 o’clock there is a logo of an old-school divers helmet, and the date function is inside. Unusual because the date on an analog watch is usually at the 3′oclock position.
The distinctive black and silver styling extends to the rubber strap, which has stainless steel barrel inserts.
There are analog sub dials for the chronograph (chronograph is basically just a stopwatch). They measure minutes/seconds/fractions of seconds.
Just what is Tritnite exactly, and will it hurt Superman?
The watch has Tritnite-coated luminous silvertone hands and Tritnite-coated luminous dot hour markers. So what is this Tritnite stuff and how does it benefit you? Well, according to Invicta “Tritnite is a luminous material developed by Invicta in Switzerland. It is a high quality product that allows hands and markers covered with it to glow for and extended period of time. When exposed to regular daylight, it will glow for about 20 hours”
So Tritnite is long-lasting luminous paint that will make your watch look cool in the dark.
Warranty and Maintenance
The Invicta Russian Divers Quinotaur comes with Invicta’s standard one-year manufacturers warranty. This can be extended depending on where you buy it. Invicta is a major watch brand so getting it service or the battery replaced should be an easy task wherever you are.
Real Life Invicta Watch Reviews – What Russian Diver Quinotaur Owners Think
- “I have had this watch for a few months and I can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve had.”
- “Swiss quality construction and striking good looks combine to make this an excellent value and could easily outlast me.”
- “This is a stunningly beautiful watch. The craftsmanship and quality are of very high standards.”
- “If you like attention, you will certainly get it, wearing this. This is now without question my favorite watch. Simple but elegant and the perfect all around watch. Nice enough to wear to a nice black tie affair but yet still casual enough when wearing jeans when watching sports or a night out having drinks with friends.”
- “The watch feels very comfortable and has solid, well-built feel. There’s nothing cheap about the materials. If you’re looking for Wow Factor without being garish, this watch fits the bill very well. It feels good wearing it. I feel bigger, younger, more muscular. My bench press is up these days. I’m happy to help my neighbors carry a sofa up a flight of stairs. I’m back to popping off beer bottle caps with my teeth. No steroids. Just a manly watch.”
Any Complaints?
The couple of people who had a problem with this watch mainly seemed to have some kind of problem with their order not being delivered correctly. Other than that dissatisfaction is very hard to find.
This is a big, heavy striking looking watch and as such this is not suitable to wear if you want to fade into the background and not be noticed. Also it’s not something you want to wear if you like to forget you’re even wearing a watch.
As a watch to get compliments, get noticed and start conversations, it’s hard to go past. Here at watchesformen.biz we think every man needs a watch like this one in their collection. Sometimes you want to be the center of attention.
Best Place to Buy a Invicta Russian Divers Watch
The RRP of this watch is $675. Which is too much. The good news is Amazon usually have it for sale at VERY big discounts (as much as 70%). So we recommend buying it from there.
